Viewer review
This is a movie about ordinary boys. They went to school, worked at a gas station, went to the movies, loved cars and, like all boys, they fought. Everything was as usual, not good, but usual. Until one night...
If Dallas hadn't taken Poniboy and Johnny to the movies, if they hadn't met Vishenka and Marsha, if Poniba hadn't run away from home if they had managed to run away. And there are many more, if only... None of this had happened, but the paths of fate are inscrutable. There was a fight, and Poniboy and Johnny were attacked by the Sox. They were defending themselves, but Johnny had a knife... Just one night that changed the fate of all heroes.
“We were lying in a clearing last night looking at the stars” — Ponyboy.
“I killed a guy last night! He is no more than seventeen years old! Wish you could live with it!” — Johnny.
How can we live with this? Clench your teeth and live because you know that someone needs you and should live for others. There are more than one dilemma in the film about life and death. Ponyboy and Johnny will have to make quite a few difficult decisions that, sometimes, even adults can't do.
This is a film about true friendship, true friends, blood ties, victories and defeats. A film about life. It's easy to watch, and it seems pretty simple from the start. But that's not true. The questions raised in the film will remain relevant as long as people feel, empathize and are alive and real.
This story could happen anywhere and to anyone. And there are equally many such “outcasts” both in Russia and in the United States. The film does not say about the future of the characters, but I really want to believe that with each new day their lives will only get better and nothing can break them. They deserve it.
All the actors played very naturally, with a little bit of excitement, and most importantly without overplaying. Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, Diane Lane, and Tom Cruise. Unfortunately, not all of them are with us. But there is this film and many others, and they will remain in our memory forever young and excited; they still have so many interesting roles ahead of them, because this was just the beginning.
Now the 70-80s are already exotic. Gang fights, drive-in cinemas and just the atmosphere of that time. All this, combined with the excellent direction, script and acting, makes watching “The Outsiders” a pleasant pastime.
The Outcasts are almost 30 years old now, but despite this, the film has not lost its relevance at all. And you'll never regret watching it. They don't make movies like this anymore.
We must fight for our lives and make them happy. Fight and never give up.
