What are some films with the theme of “child violence” other than the 1983 film you gave?
Keith Gordon's Chocolate War
“Class” by Ilmar Raag
The Outcasts by Francis Ford Coppola
The School Jungle by Richard Brooks
Vladimir Menshov's “Raffle”
Yes, there are a lot of them! And why am I writing this. Countries such as the United States, Estonia and even the Soviet Union may have had their own cultures, but at one time their residents know firsthand how to survive in the school jungle. There were ridicule, boycotts, setups, and contempt. From these phenomena, future actors, directors and even writers developed their own phobias, uncertainty, and alienation.
Vladimir Zheleznikov's granddaughter faced this situation. They also presented her with a “boycott”, but it cannot be called that since she was bullied, not ignored. And it so happened that Rolan Bykov fell into the hands of the story, and he didn't stay on the topic either: they didn't like him at school, and his stepson Pavel Sanayev was an outcast at all. This is how the legend of the movie “The Scarecrow” began.
At a time when pioneers and Timurites were viewed as angels who had descended from heaven, no one knew what kind of souls lay in the children's hearts. What about the kids from the provincial school that Lena went to in sixth grade? This is a cage of evil but irresponsible animals. And what a pity that there was no scene where Lena in the Hare mask was surrounded by her classmates in the “skins” of other animals (some are cheats and the other is a greedy Grey Wolf). So this is the direct answer to who they really are. Because in fairy tales, wolves and foxes are left without tails, right?
Lena — she has remained an interesting and unique girl for me. He looks fragile and defenseless, but he's such a fighter at heart. And Somova will protect Dimka, cut his bald hair, and reveal the faces of her peers.
They also wanted to send this film “to the regiment”, as one of the important officials said: “I would not like my granddaughter to watch such a movie.” But Bykov defended his position that the country needs this film. Why did they want to ban it? Because of the daring scenes featuring baby animals? No, everyone was just afraid to admit that they had studied with such Shmakovs, Mironovs and even Somovs. Everyone pretended to be ideals, and this film reveals all the “delights” of a Soviet child's adolescence.
This film was shown to us at school, fourth (!) classroom. And this is wrong, because we did not understand why the Soviet country “needed” this film. And the teachers also did not understand that this film about them revealed very interesting things. You can't make classic films in early school, you can't.
