A 1990 drama film by Indian director Satyajit Rai. The film is an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's play “An Enemy of the People”.

The film is set in a small town in Bengal. Dr. Ashok Gupta runs a local hospital. The doctor's younger brother, Nishrit, heads the committee that deals with the hospital and temple, which were built by a local industrialist. The temple is also a major tourist attraction.

Dr. Gupta believes that the holy water in the temple is polluted due to damaged pipes and this is the cause of the epidemic in the city. He warns his brother Nishrit about this. Nishrit, an industrialist and other city officials reject the idea that holy water could be the cause of the epidemic and refuse to close the temple for repairs.
